Script Submission Guidelines

Have a look at our mandate:

“To foster, produce and promote excellent theatre that provokes examination of Canadian life and our place in the world.”

This mandate doesn’t mean we don’t accept work from outside of Canada, but it’s imperative that the script “provokes examination of Canadian life”. Your script should have a perspective on that.

Due to the quantity of reading requests, we do accept a limited number of scripts per month. Please consult our Script Submission Guidelines below before sending your script or proposal.

Eligibility & Guidelines

Please do not e-mail scripts without consulting GCTC.

Any script that is received without consultation will be returned, deleted or recycled.

What’s eligible?

GCTC prioritizes submissions from Canadian playwrights and/or playwrights residing in Canada. We are particularly interested in hearing from under-represented communities.

What do we produce?

GCTC produces a subscription season of 5 to 6 full-length plays in English for adult audiences.  Our mandate is to produce theatre that "provokes examination of Canadian life and our place in the world."

What are the guidelines for script submissions?

Please contact GCTC’s Artistic Director, Sarah Kitz, at sarah@gctc.ca prior to sending scripts for consideration. If the proposal is of interest, the playwright will be invited to send the script.

Please include the following in your proposal:

  • A short synopsis

  • Information about the development or production history of your play

  • Play length

  • A cast breakdown

  • Your full mailing address, phone number and e-mail.

How do we respond?

We receive a lot of script submissions. Consequently, we have to let you know about our capacity for response, and put the following conditions in place:

  • Script reading time varies over the course of a year. It may be many months before you hear back.

  • We do not provide feedback on why a script is not in contention for production, nor do we offer dramaturgical input on projects in which we're not involved.

  • If your script is interesting to us, we will reach out.
